Skin Health From Within: The Role of Nutrition, Collagen, Vitamins and Minerals

Skincare is usually associated with what we put on our skin—cleansers, moisturizers, serums and sunscreens.

But skin is a living organ, and its normal structure and function also depend on nutrition.

This creates the basis for an inside-out approach to skin health: combining appropriate topical skincare with adequate nutritional support.

Collagen and the skin

Collagen is one of the major structural proteins in the skin and contributes to its physical structure.

For this reason, oral hydrolyzed collagen has been extensively studied in the field of skin health.

A 2023 systematic review and meta-analysis covering 26 randomized controlled trials and 1,721 participants found improvements in skin hydration and elasticity with hydrolyzed collagen supplementation, although the researchers also identified biases and called for further large-scale trials. Importantly, the quantities used in collagen clinical trials can differ substantially from the amount contained in an individual multi-ingredient supplement. Therefore, results from those trials should not automatically be attributed to CLEAJOURVIT itself.

Vitamin C and collagen formation

Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin and also contributes to protection of cells from oxidative stress.

This makes Vitamin C relevant not only as an antioxidant nutrient but also as part of the nutritional processes involved in normal skin structure.

Zinc and normal skin

Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and plays roles in many biological processes.

Because skin health depends on multiple nutrients, zinc frequently appears alongside vitamins and other nutritional ingredients in beauty-from-within formulations.

Biotin and skin

Biotin is usually associated with hair and nails, but it also contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.

This reinforces an important principle: nutrients rarely work exclusively in one cosmetic area. Hair, skin and nails share several nutritional requirements.

Antioxidant nutritional support

Environmental exposure and normal metabolism generate reactive molecules that are controlled by the body's antioxidant systems.

Nutrients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Zinc contribute to normal antioxidant protection through different biological mechanisms.

This is different from claiming that a nutritional supplement replaces topical sunscreen or other forms of skin protection—it does not.

CLEAJOURVIT and inside-out skin support

CLEAJOURVIT™ is designed as a multi-nutrient beauty and wellness supplement rather than a collagen-only product.

Each daily serving of 3 gummies combines Hydrolyzed Collagen, Vitamin C, Biotin, Zinc and Silica with Saw Palmetto Extract, Pumpkin Seed Oil, MSM, Vitamin D and additional vitamins.

This allows CLEAJOURVIT to complement Cleajour's topical skincare philosophy with nutritional support from within.

The two approaches have different roles:

Outside: cleansing, hydration, targeted skincare and protection.

Inside: adequate nutrition and selected nutritional supplementation.

Together, they form the basis of Cleajour's Inside + Outside approach to skin and wellness.

There is published research supporting interest in oral collagen and skin health, but the literature is not completely uniform. For example, a 2025 meta-analysis found that apparent collagen benefits were less convincing when analyses were restricted by study quality and funding source. (PubMed) I would actually keep this nuance in the article—it makes the content more trustworthy, not less.
